Wildlife & Nature

Are you familiar with the Manx Loaghtan sheep native to the Isle of Man?
You’ll spot them roaming the fields – but don’t be frightened by their horns, these sheep are very friendly.

They’re also not the only animals that can be spotted around Langness. From the lighthouse you can see dolphins, seals, Basking sharks and Minke whales. The nearby salt marshes are a popular place for bird watchers and photographers who will also enjoy viewing the migration and nesting of countless bird species throughout the year. The island also has the largest wild wallaby population in the northern hemisphere.

Look out for the tailless Manx cat on your visit. Often easily seen, along with the Loaghtan sheep, at the Cregneash living museum, populated with its old Manx thatched cottages. Cregneash is on the road down to the beautiful Sound where you can see dozens of seals on the rocks between the Sound and across to the Calf of Man.

The Langness peninsula is recognised by UNESCO as an excellent spot to explore, with its rock coves, arches and pinnacles.
